Default How often do you detail your exterior?

Last weekend I went through the whole external detail. I washed, clayed, polished, and waxed. It took some 7 hours on small-ish car. I live in the high altitude desert, and the weather is nice on cars out here, minus the dust which seems to cling onto the paint! I had something like this in mind for exterior maintenance :

Every 6 months : Full detail
Every 1 month : Wash and wax
Every 2 weeks : Wash and quick detail spray

Just curious as to what everyone else does.

Thats about what i do. It keeps the car looking great and protects the paint well. I also use synthetic waxes, it holds up in the hot summer months much better than carnauba.

Never!! My civic's body is so dented up and the paint is in horrible shape already so i don't even worry about it.. The only 2 things I care about are how it drives and the interior!

So maybe once a year.

I wash it once every month or so and sometimes polish it with scratch remover. Also polish all the chrome. Never waxed it though. Sometimes after wheeling I'll hose all the mud off but don't properly wash it

Wash both of them weekly, never wax don't have time. @mike you don't need a hose with the no rinse stuff I use. Just a bucket of water and a towel.

If I keep up I can have one done in about 30 min, I rarely drive truck so it never sees much dirt.

Im surprised at how few are saying they dont wax! I cringe at the thought of that, its there to protect your clear coat and paint, not to mention how much less dirt and oil sticks to the car with a good coat of wax on it.

When I was young and single without four kids. I washed it at least weekly, did the touch up wax every week, and did a full wax job at least every other month, sometimes every month. I detailed tires, and interior when I did the weekly washes, as well as engine bay. I always touched up scratches or nicks immediately. Hell I never let the gas tank go below half a tank....

Now my cars hit the car wash 4-6 times a year....last time I waxed a car.....hmmm no clue. I try to vacuum out my cars like once a month. I rarely have more than half a tank. Of all my friends that used to do that sort of thing only one still does it, and he has the highest paying job and most vacation of any of us, and only one kid.

I used to have a local shop wash the sonic once a month. Now I never drive it and I could care less about the exterior on the aurora. When we move in 2 week's we'll have unlimited access to a heated car wash stall so I'll probably start washing both cars once a month and pay someone to wax the sonic once a year.

I certainly would if i had a vehicle that the paint was that critical on. I've got 240k on the stock paint job and some slight rust on the rocker panels, various scratches, etc. Not too concerned about it.
