Default 240SX Rebuild

No compression, motor turns over, #2 and #3 plugs were stuck and took a lot of soaking in PB to break loose plus they were tight the whole way out. We figured head gasket was blown to smithereens so the tear down begins.

After having the first engine jacks cylinder fail we finally got the engine out.

Lung butter in the intake manifold

So far so good, nothing terrible.

Bingo.

That's why #2 and #3 plugs were tight. Time for a new head.

Contacting shops today to get pricing on cleaning up the new head and looking at the block to make sure nothing is wrong with it.

Dropped the block and spare head we had laying around at a head and block shop today. They are gonna boil the block and head, bore the cylinders 0.020" over and re-hone it, polish the crank, valve job, and deck the block and head. They confirmed it was a head gasket failure like we thought and suggested we use a thin layer of black RTV silicone when rebuilding the motor to help prevent that in the future.

The spare head only had the exhaust cam and cam caps, luckily the cams and caps from the blown head appear to have come from the same factory and the shop said they could use the cams and caps out the blown head.

Car is back up and running. Rebuild went off without a hitch really. Only took us a day and a half to get it back together and running.

Yeah, N/A motor so no turbo. It's a chump series car so they put a value on the car at stock and any upgrades adds to that value. Every $10 over $500 value is 1 penalty lap for the race so $600 value is 10 penalty laps which is a lot to make up. The object is to have a fast reliable car valued right at $500.

Car ran great at the NOLA shakedown this weekend. It's got a lot more power and runs 10F cooler on water temp and 20F cooler on oil temps. Compression is lower, around 155 (which is odd because it should be higher compression with the bore), but it is rising the more the car is run. It should be around 180 when it's hot.

Barber Motorsports Park is up next, it's a 7/7 race so 7 hours the first day and 7 hours the second day.
