Default 240SX @ Barber Motorsports

Just got back yesterday from Chump Car Race Series out at Barber Motorsports Park. The track is incredible out there, everything is immaculately manicured landscaping wise, the track surface is perfect, and the facilities are spotless. It's a crazy track because it's made for motorcycles so it has a lot of elevation changes and steep banks on turns. If you've ran it in iRacing it simply doesn't do it justice.

The car held together for about 3 hours, we suspect that we were losing oil somehow (still not sure because it wasn't burning it - no smoke) and ran the sump dry for a split second when the car was hot and smoked a crank bearing. We have compression but the engine has trouble turning over (like it's struggling and grinding on the inside) and oil is below the low mark and extremely black after only 5 hours on the motor. I have a feeling all the banks and elevation changes had something to do with that. No doubt we would have been on the podium if the car has held together.

During that 3 hours we went from 40th to 7th and we weren't slowing down as well as keeping up one of the fastest average paces and we kept our pit times down to the minimum amount of time allowed (5 min). After we left the race we went to the museum at the track and I took a ton of pics. It was by far one of the coolest places I've been to. Link to the album below.

Finally, a post on driving, and competitive driving even! I do not suppose you also have some on-board footage or datalogging for our amusement...

Some of us have to go abroad for this sort of event, so we take some joy (mingled with envy) in viewing others good times...

Anyway, does look like a very interesting track. From the looks of it, it reminds me more of handling circuits like Millbrook than it reminds me of a typical racetrack.

It's the sort of circuit I would pay money to have at my disposal for coaching other drivers.

By the way, is it possible that the car losses it's oil against the road surface? I had seen entertaining (at least to me - the drivers didn't think so) were such oil leaks dripped against a back tire...

Our DAQ didn't appear to be working correctly but chump does log lap times, I am just not sure how to get them. I think we took some gopro video though, I'll have to get the link.

I'm not sure where the oil went TBH as there is no leak anywhere.

If i had known you were going to be in Bham i would have met you! Im in huntsville, al. Sometime we should plan a race day.
