Default Suggestions for performance parts.

I am wanting to get my car moving a little bit faster. I don't have much knowledge on the topic, so anything to help me would be, well, helpful.

Does HP = Speed?

I understand that more HP would get my 0-60 shorter, but what will it do for my top speed?

Is there anything I can do to my car outside of buying performance parts to get it going faster?

Is there a throttle limiter that I can disable or something?

Yeah, clueless.

Thanks.

Your car is governed at 132mph. I am thinking that you may be able to replace the ECU with a Rally art ECU and those usually are not goverened. I just don't know if there is such a model.

Wow. I was kinda shocked when I saw that. Haha, that is my top speed.

How hard is it to get the governor off?

I don't know for sure. You usually have to use a piggy back EMS [engine management system], and they can be expinsive $1000+. Or change the stock ECU or send it off to get reflashed. Some older galants used EPROM chips and you could just mail the chip off and have them reflash it. If your cars ECU is the same as a new eclipse or Evo then you should be able to use the same piggy back[uses same harness]. I don't know if it would work though.

I am having a hard time finding a good site for info on an ECU.

I think I understand the purpose of the ECU, but I don't get why it is so expensive! It is just a little chip.

who can reflash my ECU? I am really good friends with a mechanic. He takes care of all my car issues. Could he do it, or does it have to be done through a specialist or the manufacturer?

Top speed is pointless. If you really want to make good power, you'll have to turbo it, which will cost you over $3,000, realistically at least $5k one you upgraded other parts so your car can handle the extra power. IMO superchargers are a waste of money on smaller engines. Don't get ebay crap.

If you are just looking for a little more quickness, i would say a cold air intake for starters. Exhaust will help some too (header/s back). It doesn't have to be loud. There are some nice mufflers that aren't loud and have a nice subtle tone to them. Those 2 things will increase throttle response dramatically. Your gas pedal won't feel so mushy or hard, and you car will be quicker. All that might add 20hp, 25 max. That is just a guess. Find a Galant forum for better estimates on hp gains from mods.

how about posting a new bulletin rather then reviving a old one.

In regarde to your post about a 12-18hp gain total about 9 ft lbs of torque and you would notice a lack of low end power and torque. the mods would move your power curve to a higher rpm range.
