Default Watching the Olympics and Thought Why Not?

Im watching the opening of the Beijing Olympics and i began to think to myself that they should have auto racing as an olympic event. Something like F1, rally, or lemans (i forget what they call that kind of racing). i know auto racing is very popular around the world and i can see how people would not consider auto racing a sport though i do. So whats your guys opinion? do you think it should be or not and why?

P.S how cool would it be to watch Tony Stewart face off against Louis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, Juan Pablo Montoya, and others in an olympic auto race? Having USA on the side of a car or any other country. And im sure the big automakers of all countries wouldnt mind contributing engines and their know how on cars.

Good idea i think, but considering the Olympics moves to different location every time, it would be extremely difficult and too costly to build a suitable race track every 4 years at the chosen location.

Great idea, let's make places like Beijing have worse air quality than they already do

China is a big place, they could have the road race elsewhere if they chose to.

The problem I think that would be big is deciding what constitutes a fair representation of motor sports? F1? Stock car racing? Rally car? Dune racing? Drag racing? How can you have one but not the others?

i was thinking that and i was talking to my bro and he suggested there should be an official olympic car they only race for the olympics so no one has an unfair advantage

..or maybe do it like the sailing and split it into different classes. I personally think a motor race would be good, but it would have to be short. F1 can be boring at times and i cant really see myself watching a 24 hour endurance race (although that would be a good olympic sport because it does push a person to the limit.)

I think it should be like the Road cycling event, a bit like hill climbing or Rally, therefore you can have world records and set times. I agree with vvelez5 about the cars being the same though, a bit like A1.
