Default Anti-Spam ideas

1. Require new members to answer a question, and type the answer. Such as "What's two plus four?" "What's the square root of 144?" "What color is this picture?"

2. Allow members to be reported as spammers, allowing VIP's to effectivly close accounts. Those abusing the ability would have to face the consequences, of course. Disable this feature if the member has more than 50 posts. Proven Spam accounts to be permanently deleted.

3. Allow certain members to delete more than one post in 60 seconds. I suggest the cap be removed entirely, at least for the time being. This forum isn't big enough for those caps.

4. All members who post anything with com, net, www, or html to answer a quick typed question; see number 1. Restriction removed after 25 posts

5. Have some Anti-Spam members, who get alerts for posts by new members that include links. Alerts stop after 25 posts.

6. Save spam posts for the Anti-Spam squad, so they may report it through proper channels, if necessary. Simple scare tactics may effectively end spam from a large source.

7. Post a big scary "don't spam or else" on the registration info.

I don't know if Shogun will allow this much stuff, but I'm sure it can do some. I'm sure I have other ideas, can't think of any atm. However, let this thread serve as a drop-box for your own ideas! We need more members, but Spam needs to be taken care of first, I think.

I wholeheartedly agree, something better needs to be done.

The spammer has the advantage, it can post way faster than I can wait and delete.

Believe me, I'm pushing as hard as I can to get something done.

Don't want y'all to get the impression I'm taking this sitting down lol. It's been a HUGE increase, I'm doing everything I can.

On the full size bronco forum they ask what year the first bronco came out when you register. I think something like that would be good... Not something as simple as a math problem, yet something most people on the forum would know about or easily google.

So sad, I come by several times a day to see what's new, and to take out a few spam posts. If I'm looking for the latest posts I many times need to wade through 30-40 spam posts to see what the latest post by a legitimate member is. And when I see more than 10 posts by a spammer I'm inclined to do nothing because I can't clean up the forum anyways, so I just leave.

Also when I arrive at a new forum that I may be interested and I see the last 20 posts are for h=designer handbags, I leave, not interested in a forum that doesn't look like it has much action other than spammers.

Oops it's not fsb it's classicbroncos that has that...and I agree with mr car guy. When I get on I'm usually either about to go to bed or at work, and I get on from my phone. If I click the last three post and they are all spam I normally just give up. It's to much of a pain when I'm on my phone to navigate through the pages and try to find a real post.

I know what you mean and definitely share similar concerns. Bear with me here.

I swear Car Guy is the best at catching them. You must just always get on right when they're posting lol.

I bet 3/4 of the reports are from Car Guy and KSIMP.

I would help lol but I haven't been here long enough. If I actually had a reason to go through all of them to delete I would, but when all I can do is report it feels kinda pointless. I don't get the point on most of the spammers...are they just trying to be annoying or do they actually expect you to buy from them? ggrrrr

Amazingly enough they're actually convinced you're gonna buy stuff.

We used to ONLY ever get the same kind, they'd come a couple times a week, make 2 or 3 posts and put 3 links in their sigs. Not nearly as bad as these.
