Default Spam is really becoming an issue on this forum

Looks every single forum is full of spam. I thought this problem had been sorted out. This is really bad news. It must put a lot of people off using the forum.

It was under control for a little bit when admin was here everyday but now that the guys running the show are debating on who's a director/editor it's been quiet enough for spam. I looked at the latest posts and the spam spans every page almost.

I guess the bots bring more revenue through the ads!

But yes, I hate the spam.

Yep, it's going to be bad until we have mods assigned here...one person just can't do it all

No moderators on this board, unacceptable. There are good members here that can easily be assigned moderator titles.

Besides, vBulletin has reCAPTCHA built in that should easily stop thos spam bots. I use it on my forum.

There are mods here. But I have to work + take of real life issues so it isnt always possbile for me to be on all the time. I apologize for the spam but I cant enable any of the built in anti-spam features as I am not an Admin.

Thanks for your understanding.

Poking my nose in from the dog forum.
We're having a similar problem.

The spambots have found a way to do an automated registration. It looks like there is a new security exploit as of last week.

When this happened last October, the registration process included the "captcha" verification to make sure that a real human being was registering. However, the spambots were able to circmvent it, resulting ina flood fo spam last fall. To foil these newer spambots, the registration process was modified so that the member had to answer a "real" question. This kept the spambots out until recently, when they evidently figured out how to crack the registration barrier.

Yeah I guess we will have to keep manually deleting the spam until

A. VB releases a fix for this.
B. The Admins can implement the fix or another work around.

The CAPTCHA's are no challenge for bots. I own/admin a forum and had a sudden surge of spam. I added a no-brainer "human" question to the registration page and REMOVED the CAPTCHA. It's been months and no spam. All the CAPTCHA does is irritate humans.

The question must be a multiple choice with the selected default as the wrong answer.

So something as simple as "Are you a spammer", or "Are you human", with yes/no selections.
A bot will always select the first choice. The registration cannot process until a correct answer is selected.

It's very easy to implement and every forum software I've seen has provision for this.

I have put other forum Admins onto this and it's worked every time.

You're right I take it back.
Carforum has the captcha and not the human challenge question. For some reason I was under the impression we had something like you described.
