Default Pipe dreams - what can CarForum do for YOU?

We all use forums, some of us probably more than is healthy. In our time on those forums, we all surely have things cross our mind, the "hey, it would be cool if..." or "I really wish somebody would..." type things - now is your chance to let us know about them.

We're looking to grow the CarForum.net community, and an integral part of that process is going to be giving car people what car people want in an online community. Shout it out - tell us what you think, no matter how crazy you might think the idea is. If it seems reasonable, we'll do our best to make it happen for you and everyone else like you who's ever wanted to see it.

let us spam squad guys get people with more than 5 posts! I've only been asking wierdo about that since it came out :P Maybe a how-to section where people can post how to's like how to do proper oil changes, do a compression test, Wierdo's fuel pressure regulator replacement since that seems to be popular, how to change plugs and wires, time your engine, etc?

I think car forum needs an improved symbol too. OCN has the flame and carforum has a...steering wheel. You also need to make a push for more members. Theres a member on maybe once an hour.

Forums need to be better organized.

There are a lot of sections that I see we could do without, and others that I see could use expanding.

Sig Rigs here, too. Wierdo said he put those across your desk, as it were, ages ago.

Edit: And we need the emote. I miss that little guy...

1985 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci OHV inline six | 4-speed OD manual | 310K | No power brakes | Running 100% - It hasn't driven this good in 15 years!

1984 Ford F150 | 4x2 | 300ci six | granny four | 3.55 rear end | 210K | Brakes shot. Rear drums are doing most of the work. Not fit to drive due to that.
1997 Ford Explorer XLT | 4.0L Vulcan V6 | 5-speed automatic | shift-on-the-fly 4WD | 210,000 miles | Running 95% - Needs brakes on all four corners + bald tires
1989 Ford F150 | 300cid six...again | 5-speed | 4x4 | 160K | Needs brakes done as well. Oi!

Yes, I agree - sigs, put the spam squad on steroids, and redo the forums. It's really hard to find relevant posts sometimes, because so many of the subforums overlap. Not sure what the best arrangement would be, but something should be done. And, maybe we should look into some form of advertising?

Also, someone suggested that the forum was too "generic" and should be more specific...this is just my two cents worth, but I personally disagree. I think the "generic-ness" of the forum is part of it's appeal - anyone can find a forum specifically for the type of car already in existence - but a forum covering all types of cars with several very knowledgeable members is less common. Especially a forum where the knowledgeable members aren't total douches. That's what attracted me to this forum in the first place - I know I can ask a stupid question and not get flamed for it.

(EDIT: I hope that actually made sense...it's 5 AM and I just got off a 12-hour shift at work. I'll re-read it and edit it tomorrow. lol)

It depends on the time. I know TestECull is on when normal people are sleeping, Car Guy tends to visit similar times to me, and cluff (i'm fairly certain) lives at his desk sometimes we've got close to ten members on. That sounds bad, but compared to a year ago, those of you that were here then know what i'm talking about. Then, we had maybe 4 active members. Now we've got 20+. We are growing, slowly but surely. I agree the forums could stand to be redone, but those of you that want that done, how would you like the layout?

I don't know how hard it would be to get the sig rig going here, but i agree it could be greatly beneficial to the community. We know we need something that other places don't have, and that could definitely point us in the right direction.

Also, cluffenstein, i believe Chipp is working on getting the limit changed, but as for the FAQs, i've got a few coming down the pipe

I can't make that spam squad change myself, that I know of, so I'll be sure to mention it to BFRD next time we chat.

In terms of forum reorganization - any suggestions? I confess to not being much of a car guy (mostly because I dont own a car right now), so my opinions on where things should go probably arent that valid.

For guides - do we want to try the same kind of static FAQ system that has been used on on other sites previously? (If you missed it on OCN, DogForum still uses it). Would better video support be a better option?
