Default 2002 WRX with STI BBS -- what tires?

I just picked up a set of 17" STI BBS wheels from a 2004 STI. Here's what I'm trying to decide between:

215/45/17
225/45/17
215/40/17

What would be the best in terms of ride quality? Any other factors to consider? I'm not just concerned with fitment. I've heard that 225/45/17 (which is stock for the STI) doesn't play well with a stock EJ205 + tranny. Any thoughts or responses to this?

Suggestions for the actual tire brand/model to get? I live in Texas... no snow here!

Tallest, thinnest tire will be the best ride. The shortest, widest tire will be the best grip

Hmm. So the 225/45 will be the tallest and widest tire, with the 215/45 and 215/40 getting shorter and/or thinner in order.

Sounds like 215/45/17 is my best middle ground, yes? That's apparently the same size the 17" option from 2002 came with.
