Over the weekend I changed my transmission filter and fluid. My transmission was good prior to this work but I am getting close to 200k miles and I though it was time.
Now my car is running like s*^$. In park the trans is surging (the engine is surging too, but I think the trans is the culprit). When I shift the car into gear it bangs into gear. When I accelerate the car shifts hard. When I changed the filter and fluid I added back 7qts. of dexron III. I have added another quart and still the same problem. I checked the fluid level on the check plug on the trans housing. A little excess drained out and stopped. I checked the level with the engine hot, running and in park. Is the fluid level incorrect or is it something else? |

A trans doesn't surge. Yoy more then likely disconnected something by accident when you were doing the fluid. I suspect a vacuum line.

The transmission can't really do anything in park. I agree wiht Lautinjr, its almost certainly a vacuum line(or knock some electrical connector loose).

lautinjr you are right. Now I feel dumb for asking the question but I found the problem. When I did this job I removed the air filter and housing. I disconnected the MAF sensor to completly remove the air filter assembly.
Connected the MAF and my Alero is running like a champ! THanks! |
